Drilling a well in Haiti

Here is a picture of the first well that we were blessed to be able to have drilled in Haiti. It was installed at a school and is used by the school and families in the surrounding area.

Give A Drop

Here is another website to check out for donating to the cause of clean, safe drinking water.

giveadrop.com

When you donate here you get drop on the website with your initials and a short bit of info.

Check it out, pretty cool.

World Water Week

Found this information in a magazine and thought you would find it interesting. This is VERY COOL!

World Water Week is March 22-28.

"It sounds astonishing, but giving one dollar to UNICEF helps ensure that a child can access clean, safe drinking water for 40 days. To make a contribution, visit a restaurant participating in the Tap Project during World Water Week, and donate $1 for the tap water you'd usually get for free. For a list of participating restaurants nationwide (or additional information) log on to tapproject.org."

Think about it for $1 (less than a pack of Orbit gum, less than a 20 ounce soft drink, less than a bottle of water at the convenience store...you get the picture) you can give water to a child for over a month. My wife and I go out to eat a few times a month and the week of World Water Week we will definitely be finding a participating restaurant in our area. Go have a good time, some good food, and give so others can have just a little bit of what we take for granted.

When you go to the Tap Project website to find a restaurant you will not that most are just in large cities...BUT DON'T LET THAT STOP YOU FROM DONATING!!!! There is a link to make a donation online...please join me in making a small difference in the lives of kids.

Going to Haiti in August

Suzie (my wife) and I went to a meeting on a trip to Haiti in August of 2009. The meeting was at the home church for Elizabeth (the leader of Hearts with Hope for Haiti). 9 people showed up to discuss going to Haiti to assist in a Teacher's Conference in Haiti for several Christian Schools. This is the 2nd year of the conference. We just went over some of the details of the trip and some of the things to pray for. The dates of the conference is August 3, 4, and 5, 2009.

Wow! What an awesome experience. During our prayer time, we had great praise and worship and prayed for the upcoming teacher conference needs. It is definite clear that we want this to be God's conference and go in the direction that God leads. It was wonderful to be with people that have a heart for this ministry to Haiti.

Please join us in prayer for the success of this conference and God's provision.

If you are interested in sponsoring a teacher to attend this conference, send me an email at chead3@gmail.com and I will get the information to you. The cost to sponsor a teacher for this three day conference is only $100.

Water Water Everywhere....

Ok, here is my first post of my blog. First of all let me tell you that I am not much of a writer. Of course if you read the things I write for very long, you would find this out for yourself. My wife is usually my editor but for this you will get it raw and straight from my heart and soul.

Answer to your first question...or maybe you don't really care...but "Why Head Waters?" Well, Head is my last name and Waters is something I have become very passionate about. Wikipedia defines headwaters as "The source of a river or stream is the place from which the water in the river or stream originates."

This blog is not going to be just about water but it will be a big part of it. Answer to your second question, "Why?" Because we in the United States of America have plenty of clean, fresh drinking water. Water that doesn't make us sick. Water that we can wash our clothes in and they don't come out looking like we washed them in mud. Water that we can use to flush our toilets with. So much fresh water that we take it for granted.

But there are so many places on this planet of ours that our fellow human beings do not have access to clean, fresh water. Some close to our on country. I have seen videos on the net that others are using to educate people as to the need in third world countries. And it breaks my heart. It breaks my heart to see children drinking water that I wouldn't allow my cats to drink. Water that is so muddy that it is more like a solid than a liquid. Water that animals and maybe even humans are using for cleaning themselves.

God has given me so much and I believe that we are supposed to give some back to others that don't have as much as we have. My wife and I have become involved with a group, Hearts with Hope for Haiti, that is run by a long time friends of ours, Elizabeth and Kelly Clackler. Elizabeth spends a lot of time in this country and through our association with her, we have discovered that Haiti has a severe lack of clean water. We have heard that over 80% of disease in Haiti is water borne mainly due to a lack of clean water (I haven't verified this yet but will post when I do). But really this number is not important. The important thing is the fact that we can do something about this.

We have found out that it doesn't take that much money to put in a well in Haiti. To put a well like this also uses Haitian labor so the money stays in the local economy. My wife and I have been blessed to be able to pay for one well so far.

Now we have opened an ETSY store to sell handmade jewelry that my wife designs and creates. We have committed to put in two fresh water wells in Haiti every year. Think about it...for the price of some laptop computers or flat panel tv's we can supply fresh water for a school or village and maybe make a difference in the lives of many people. Now I am not saying don't buy things, I like my things too. But I do think we that have the ability should do some things for others.

Pray about what you can do. I will post more soon.
